Things may be a little different these days, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay at home all day feeling sorry for yourself. There’s a big, beautiful world right outside your door in Buffalo Niagara. Since you can’t go abroad, there is no better time than now to be a tourist in your own backyard. There’s always something new to discover. Everyone whose lived in, or has visited, this region for any period of time knows that Buffalo Niagara boasts a wealth of beautiful nature. With that in mind, Welcome 716 has compiled a list of some great spots within driving distance that can surely satisfy that wanderlust all the cooped up young kids have now!

The Finger Lakes Region is an area consisting of eleven long, narrow lakes running north-south in the middle of New York State. Cayuga and Seneca Lakes are among the deepest lakes in the entire country. Located roughly 2 hours from Buffalo, these natural beauties are perfect for a day-trip delving into the natural beauty of our state.
The Finger Lakes Region of New York State is a 9,000 square mile, four-season playground, set against a backdrop of Mother Nature’s best work: from waterfalls and gorges to rolling hills to miles of spectacular shoreline. No matter what you like to do, you’ll find it in abundance in the Finger Lakes.
Letchworth State Park, renowned as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S.
Letchworth State Park is another wonderful destination just outside Buffalo Niagara. New York State’s own “Grand Canyon of the East” is a perfect way to travel out West while only driving about an hour and a half from downtown Buffalo. Letchworth State Park is around 17 miles long and follows the Genesee River as it cuts a deep gorge and numerous waterfalls through the landscape. Natural beauty is in abundance in Livingston and Wyoming Counties, and Letchworth State Park is actually just one of the great State parks in the area.
Go explore an enchanting world of towering rocks, deep crevices and passageways, cool, cavernous dens, and small caves at Panama Rocks
Panama Rocks is reputed to be the most extensive formations of glacier-cut, ocean-quartz conglomerate in the world, forming a ridge half a mile long. Stretching through a corner of Panama, NY in Chautauqua county, this natural wonder formed 350-400 million years ago and is a literal blast from the past. EXPLORE the #1-ranked trail in New York State and ESCAPE into a world of towering rocks, deep crevices, passageways, and small caves hidden in an ancient forest! Grotesque roots snake down the rocks and delicate ferns, mosses, and lichens add to Panama Rock’s unique, jungle-like charm. Head back to the Devonian Period with an hour and a half drive south of Buffalo!
Taughannock Falls State Park’s namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge
Taughannock Falls State Park, located near Ithaca, NY offers hiking and nature trails, camping and picnicking. The park includes a stretch of Cayuga Lake’s shoreline, where swimming, fishing, and a boat launch are available. In the winter, Taughannock Falls State Park offers facilities and trails for ice-skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing in the wintertime.
Taughannock Falls State Park’s namesake is a 215 foot plunge waterfall that is the highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. For Comparison, the Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls is only 167 feet tall. Located just over 2 hours from Buffalo, one can experience the beauty of an understated State Park at Taughannock Falls State Park while also checking out the state’s tallest waterfall.
