We (May Not) Know (Yet) What You’re Doing this Summer

Summer is here! Yet what are you going to do this summer? This is the unanswerable question everyone has on his or her mind just before the summer season officially kicks off. Will you plan a trip to some exotic destination you’ve always been meaning to go to? Will you spend long, cool nights hanging out with friends gallivanting around town, and enjoying each other’s company, or will you find a nice shady tree during the more oppressive summer days and relax with a book in one hand and a cold beverage in the other? These are all great activities to do during the summer, but you know what beats them all, hands down?

Live music!

Yes, concert season is once again in full swing this summer, and we’ve got you covered on some of the best concerts coming up during the summer months, so get your calendar ready because you’re not going to want to miss out on these live shows!

Metallica at Highmark Stadium on August 11th

Yes, the Thrash Metal Gods are coming to Highmark Stadium, and they’re sure to bring all the supercharged riffs, explosive energy, and catchy tunes they’re known for. Since their debut album with 1983‘s Kill ‘Em All, Metallica has been at the forefront of thrash metal, asking questions through their song structure since the early days of the band like ‘how hard can you play riffs?’ ‘What subject matters complement such a high-octane playing style?’ These are questions Metallica has answered through their long and illustrious career. Always ready to take risks, Metallica still hasn’t lost a step in its 30-year+ career, so there’s a lot to enjoy. Only problem is you won’t know what classics they’ll be performing unless you go (my hope is they play Ride the Lightning).

The Goo Goo Dolls on September 24 at KeyBank Center

One of Buffalo’s greatest musical exports is coming home to play on the big stage once again, and one thing is for sure. The closer September 24 gets, the more you’ll feel the energy in the air because when the Goo Goo Dolls play in Buffalo, it’s nothing less than magic in the air. And what else do you expect from a band that gave you late 90s defining records like Dizzy up the Girl and stone-cold classic tracks like Iris and Slide? I’ll tell you what to expect- a good night filled with great music.

Ziggy Marley on August 10 at Artpark

Reggae superstar Ziggy Marley is coming to Artpark to bring good vibes and strong messages ranging from peace and love to our current political climate. Besides being an eight-time Grammy winner, Emmy winner, musician, producer, activist, and humanitarian, Ziggy is extremely versatile. You never know what you’re going to get during one of his live shows, especially considering this one is a tribute to his father. All you know is that it’s going to be good, and honestly, what more do you need to know?

Who Are You with Carl Dixon – A Celebration of The Who on July 13 at Gateway Harbor

Who Are You with Carl Dixon

There are very few things that are definite in this world. There are 24 hours in a day; 60 seconds in a minute, and The Who are timeless. There’s just something about The Who’s rambunctious, quirky, and insightful lyrics and song structures that make their songs last the test of time. Don’t believe me? The Who are so good you’ll get a kick out of someone else doing their songs. That’s how good their material is, but it’s not just any old person off the street playing this Who celebration. No, it’s none other than singer, keyboardist, and guitarist Carl Dixion leading the night’s proceedings. Carl is best known for being in bands such as The Guess Who and April Wine (no relation to The Who by the way. He is a very well respected touring artist on his own merits) So prepare yourself for a great time with even better songs! (just don’t expect him to play Tommy or Quadrophenia you want to get home before 2 AM at night right?)

Rage Against the Machine on July 25 at KeyBank Center

They were arguably the most controversial group of the 90s, sending parents into a frenzy and kids smiling with glee whenever their records were played. Their super politically charged lyrics caused nothing short of mass hysteria for close to the entirety of the 90s. SNL banned them from playing after just one performance. All the controversy and stick to your guns attitude eventually caused the band a break up for many years. But Rage Against the Machine is back, and they’re coming to Buffalo’s KeyBank Center, so what do you say? Want to see what all the fuss was about?

Magic (and Maybe More) in the Air

There’s something truly special about going to a concert in the summertime. It provides a feeling that can only be attained when the heat is up and the volume is turned up even louder. To call it euphoric is an understatement. It’s something you just have to experience yourself, and the crazy thing is it doesn’t even have to be a good concert. All you need is some good company, something cold, and some tunes, and the rest will fall into place on its own, but if you add in good music like all the acts listed on this list, then the alchemic formula is truly at work, and you’re in for a great time!

So if you’ve been waiting patiently for some good live music to arrive, wait no longer because it’s officially here. No matter your plans for the summer, you owe it to yourself to at least catch a concert because, like I said before, there’s truly nothing like it. It’s a spellbinding experience and then some.
