Quality for Less
Getting new furniture is one of those pains in life that everyone has to eventually deal with (unless your one of those “bare essentials” types where a hardwood floor and a blanket will suffice). Not to mention how expensive getting any type of furniture can be. Whether it be something as simple and mundane as getting a nice sitting chair for the living room or getting something a bit more involved like a sofa. It can all add up quick and make you incredibly envious of those who can live with just the “bare essentials.”
Still, there’s nothing wrong with having appealing well-made furniture in your home or office, whether it be because you just like the look of something or you feel as if you really need it, the problem always comes down to the dollar amount. But don’t lose hope because there is a way for you to have quality furniture in your home or office space without handing tear-soaked bills to the cashier at the checkout. You simply head on over to a used furniture store. So how about we discuss what makes a good used furniture store in Buffalo Niagara!
No Shame in Your Used Furniture Game
People tend to be a bit apprehensive when talking about furniture stores. It’s understandable but unwarranted. I honestly don’t know what the big hang-up is. Some people make it seem like if you take home a used lazy boy, a monster will burst out of the seat when in actuality, buying used furniture can be a bonafide treasure trove as well as a good means of giving back to one’s community.

Everything you see in a used furniture store has been given voluntarily by its owner. Think about that for a moment. Think about the furniture in your own living space and all the good times you’ve had while it was in your possession — like with friends joking and laughing on your sofa until two o’clock in the morning. Maybe your thoughts go to grandma’s old rocking chair that’s been passed down from generation to generation where you and her had long beautiful conversations about life while you were growing up. That’s a lot of memories and time invested in that furniture, and to give it up so someone in need can use it? That’s a subtly noble act if I ever heard one.
Granted, it’s not always like that. Sometimes people just want to get rid of their sofa or reclining chair because they’re tired of it, or they need the money. Still, regardless of the reason, eventually it will end up in someone else’s home, which at the very least will hopefully give that particular piece of furniture another way to be useful.
Decorate Your Space On-Budget
Yet, people still don’t grasp just how helpful used furniture stores can be to those in need as well. Yes, there are used furniture stores and boutiques that specialize in the Uber fancy stuff your likely to see in some snobby New York realtor’s home (no offense to snobby New York realtors. If you guys can find me a nice apartment without having me pay my weight in gold, I’d be more then grateful. I’d even send an edible arrangement.) I’m talking mahogany chairs from the 18th-century, leather sofas from the French revolution (please no one go high school history teacher on me and say that they didn’t have leather sofas in the time of the French Revolution. I’m trying to prove a point. My apologies if it’s historically inaccurate), but those are for the collectors and such among us.
The majority of used furniture stores are much more modest. They still have nice things (it won’t just be college bean bags and lawn chairs, however, I’m sure if that’s what you’re looking for, they’ll have it). But it’s much more about the essentials. The things people frequently use in day-to-day living like tables and chairs, maybe a nice leather recliner with a cup holder, stuff like that. However mundane, perhaps there is always someone who needs those exact essentials for their home, and since Covid and the ever-fluctuating state of the economy is uncertain, to say the very least, what you may think is just an old table that’s been sitting in your basement for ten years that you finally decided to give away after a hot of spring cleaning, could mean the world to someone in a less fortunate position.
So if you’re thinking about donating or making a few dollars from your old chairs or tables, please consider doing so because there’s always someone out there that needs them more than you do. As an added bonus, you’ll feel like your helping your community because we’ll… you are!

It’s Not Either/Or
Used furniture stores are seen in the public eye as one of two things: either a place for rich eccentric types to buy weird pieces from bygone eras in order to show off and impress other weird like-minded eccentric types, or they’re seen as a sort of wastebasket where people drop off the stuff they no longer want. Although there are hints of truth in both scenarios, the real truth is used furniture stores serve a much bigger purpose. They offer great deals to people in need as well as those just looking for a discount on what they want. Places like this, depending on where you go, allow you to make a bit of quick cash, which considering the times we’re all currently living in, can be nothing less than a lifesaver.
So I’ll say it once again if at some point while you were reading this blog, you felt, “Hey, I have some chairs in the attic I never use.” I implore you to take whatever you have to a used furniture store in the Buffalo Niagara area and donate or sell it to one of them because just because you no longer want it doesn’t mean someone out there doesn’t need it.
