Buffalo Food Tours

Finally … Tours that Wake You Up Instead of Put You to Sleep

It’s time for another one of my famous word pictures (you know, where I describe a scenario. I know word pictures aren’t a catchy name. I’ll work on it). You’ve been dragged along begrudgingly by a friend or family member to some art tour or any tour for that matter. The point is you find it so boring you start to get those sudden tears in your eyes that make everyone think you’re so moved by this painting or that statue, when in reality it’s taking everything you have to stay awake. You’re actually happy you have tears in your eyes because the wet salty water slowly sliding down your cheeks helps you stay awake and fight off the enticing prospect of slumberland. Whenever your friend or family member asks you about the thing you’re looking at, you just mumble: “ya, ya, it’s great.” When they ask about the tears, you just say: “I’m just so moved it’s effecting me in an unexpected way.” You know it’s a lie, but the tears help you sell it brilliantly. You think to yourself for a moment “if I can find a way to control this crying thing, I’d be one hell of a car salesman”, but that’s just one thought that disappears as soon as it enters your head. A much more prominent thought is the hunger in your stomach and how to satiate it. (Boredom always has a way of making you incredibly hungry, like your stomach is saying COME ON, ENOUGH OF THIS, LETS GET SOMETHING TO EAT AND GET IT OVER WITH!)

You then think to yourself “why do I have to go on these tear-inducing tours that just leave me as hungry as I am uninterested?” Ok my friend, we’re now heading towards a good news-bad news situation. The bad news is, you’re probably going to have to stop giving your friends and family free reign on what tours you go to because they’re obviously not clicking with you. Still the good news is, however, that there are indeed tours in the Buffalo Niagara region where you can be physically active during these tours and get some of the best food the area has to offer in the process. Sound interesting? What’s your alternative in this instance, more tears? So Let’s explore a few food tours in Buffalo Niagara.

Buffalo Food Tours’ The Elmwood Village Walking Food Tour

Eat the City

Some of the cooler food tours you can find are those from the Buffalo Food Tours, which, according to their website, allows you to “Be one in a small group of guests on a designated route with an expert local foodie guide visiting 5-7 predetermined restaurants and local establishments, as you eat a tasty small bite at each location all while learning about the city, the food and the restaurant you are visiting.” Imagine going on a walking tour where, oh my goodness, you’re not just starting and stopping like a sputtering car only to digest information you find as interesting as picking up litter on the sidewalk. But instead, you’re learning new things about the city you love and actually digesting delicious food in the process instead of bland information (bland information is said to cause indigestion, just something to keep in mind).

Elmwood Village Walking Food Tour

Their most popular tour is The Elmwood Village Walking Food Tour, where participants will explore a beautiful and historic neighborhood while tasting some of Buffalo’s best bites! They can even accommodate vegetarian options if you want (although gluten-free options are not currently available). If you’re looking to get a bit more cardio in (and let’s be honest, who isn’t. Nothing quite raves up the old appetite like a good walk) and have some outstanding food waiting for you when you finish, then The Buffalo Tour of The Historic Elmwood Village might be right up your alley!

Maybe walking is not your thing. Perhaps you find it too slow and measured. Perhaps your one of those types that when they start going, they want to keep going. None of this walk a little talk a little, eat a little rinse and repeat stuff! You want to be on the move. Burn a lot of calories, and be rewarded handsomely for your efforts. Well, if that’s the case, have you ever heard of The Hidden History Of Chicken Wings Tour? Because it has exactly what you’re looking for. Sample several wings, including an infamous recipe prepared by Lina Brown-Young. Her father, John Young, served an early version of chicken wings in a mumbo sauce, which have been unavailable for years. You’ll also explore how race dynamics shaped the city, from the city’s working-class origins to its present-day resurgence. The tour is 3 hrs and 9.5 miles, so you’ll certainly work up an appetite that will have you ready to happily devour every wing in sight once it’s all over!

Buffalo Bike Tours

Leave with a Smile

Tours traditionally are incredibly dull affairs. When you think to yourself, “I’ve been here for at least 2 hours,” only to find out that it’s been 20 minutes. This can break even the strongest of wills leading to an unexpected flow of boredom-induced tears. Not to mention although indigestion from all that bland information. (I told you not to take in too much; it’s bad for you). Boring tours are so rampant in today’s society that it’s easy to think that there is no respite from the grueling “educational” function they provide. But, worry not because as long as the Buffalo food and bike tours are available, you don’t have to settle for bland tours that leave you with wet cheeks and a hungry stomach.

No, instead, you can leave one of these active tours with a smile on your face, a heart-pumping strong from the good cardiovascular exercise it just received, and a stomach full of gourmet Buffalo food. So I ask you, if you had to choose between the dull and bland tour that you know so well and the fun, active food tour that will leave you satisfied in body and mind, which would you choose?
