Pregnancy Cravings in the 716

Pregnancy is a weird time and so are the foods you might crave. Below are just a few of our favorite cravings in the 716.

We’ve put together our guide to pregnancy cravings in the 716. Prefer something else? Let us know in the comments

Pregnancy is a wild ride. Not only does your body change in a multitude of ways, but the foods you start to crave can throw you off, too. For example, I’m four months pregnant with twins and a new favorite snack of mine is pickles and oranges! Weird combo, right? See also: bananas mashed up with half an avocado. (Hey, don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it.) But when I’m not snacking on strange combinations of food at home, there are a few local spots I like to hit up to satisfy my pregnancy cravings. And while every pregnant woman has their own version of “pickles and oranges”, you don’t have to be pregnant to crave the delicious local fare I’m about to discuss. (Insert cliché disclaimer here about checking with your doctor before eating certain foods if you’re pregnant, so you can’t sue us blah blah blah…)

The 755 Restaurant & Lounge

It’s no surprise that The 755 Restaurant & Lounge makes my list because I ate here a lot when I was trying to get pregnant. I love their chicken wraps with rice on the side and tons of Tahini Sauce. I also make sure I get an order of hummus because hummus has slowly become my new best friend. Also, if you’re lucky enough to live close to the 755 Restaurant & Lounge, they have delivery options through Door Dash for when you’re just not feeling like leaving the couch or partaking in human interaction.

The 755 Restaurant & Lounge has a huge variety of delicious options like their amazing hummus

Local Kitchen & Beer Bar

Ok, here’s a riveting fact I’m sure you’ve never heard: pregnant women love eating pickles. And at Local Kitchen & Beer Bar they take the pickle game to the next level with Deep Fried Pickles served with six pepper dill ranch. Sometimes, it’s nice to change it up from pickles out of the jar, so when you are feeling up for a night out on the town, check out the deep-fried pickles at Local Kitchen & Beer Bar. (Fun fact: I ate there the night I found out I was pregnant and had the Beef on Weck Egg Rolls. Those were good, too!)

Since having a “cold one” is out of the question, sliding on over to Anderson’s for frozen custard is always a great substitute

Lexington Cooperative Market

With two locations, the Lexington Co-operative Market has one of my favorite pregnancy cravings: veggie rolls. I can pretend like I’m eating the sushi I so desperately want but can’t have, and enjoy these little healthy snacks instead. There’s a couple different varieties but I prefer the ones wrapped in avocado. I also like to pick up a haul of fruits and vegetables while I’m there to make my favorite healthy snacks at home. (Apples and almond butter, anyone?!)

Anderson’s Frozen Custard

Sometimes, you just want something ice-cold and refreshing when you’re pregnant. And since you can’t have a “cold one” in the traditional sense, you have to get a little creative. That’s why I love Lemon Ice from Anderson’s Frozen Custard. Although, somedays, you just want a good old-fashioned Sundae and luckily Anderson’s has it all! From no fat options, to no sugar options, ice cream, frozen yogurt, traditional frozen custard,  and even plant-based dairy free options, there really is something for every kind of craving at Anderson’s Frozen Custard

DiCamillo Bakery

My latest pregnancy craving is a grilled cheese sandwich dunked in a generous amount of tomato soup. And while I’m not picky on the tomato soup variety, there’s only one bread I trust to meet my grilled cheese needs. And that, of course, is DiCamillo Bakery’s bread. If you’ve never experienced a grilled cheese on Dicamillo bread then you are truly missing out in life, my friend. As a proud resident of the Village of Lewiston, I’m sure my future kids are going to make a lot of trips to DiCamillo Bakery and I’m happy to introduce them to the deliciousness while they’re still womb-mates.

There’s must be something in the water that they use for the bread at Di Camillo Bakery

Hungry Yet?

Every pregnancy is different and so is every pregnancy craving. One woman’s pickles and oranges is another woman’s strawberries and chocolate pudding. Luckily, we live in a region with an endless supply of delicious options for those days when you might not feel like cooking something elaborate for yourself. And you certainly do not need to be pregnant to appreciate these delicious noms. So whether you’re eating for two, three, or just yourself go ahead and indulge! Did I miss your favorite craving?
