Summer in the 716 Delights the Senses

Can you believe it’s already August? If you feel like you haven’t made the most of this Summer in the 716, don’t fret.  Below we have tips on how to entice your five senses for the rest of your Summer! Get a move on it and let this week’s blog help you make some plans so that you’ll always remember this Summer. So celebrate the sunshine and warm weather now, because before you know it we will be complaining about snow.

Sight

When it comes to breathtaking visuals it’s pretty hard to compete with Niagara Falls. And the great thing about Niagara Falls is there’s multiple ways to see its splendor. You can take in an aerial view on Rainbow Air Inc and feel the thrill of flying over the Falls. If you want to get up close and personal (and maybe even a little misty) you can see the Falls onboard Hornblower Niagara Cruises. If you prefer to stay on land, check out Niagara Falls State Park with some of the best views of Niagara Falls. So whether you’re looking to see the Falls from air, land or water, there’s plenty of ways to entice your sense of sight while viewing this wondrous regional gem.

Interactive learning awaits at Buffalo’s newest museum

Touch

Ever wondered what a sea urchin feels like? Get your fingers wet at the Aquarium of Niagara Touch Tanks and find out!  Or take the kiddos to Explore & More – The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum where there are countless ways to enjoy hands-on learning! We especially loved milking the fake cow! Or take a relaxing Summer drive to Youngstown and touch fur pelts at Old Fort Niagara to get some hands-on knowledge of this region’s history.

Sound

There’s just something about live music on a Summer evening to set the perfect backdrop to your Summer memory. Listen to the sounds of Summer with a concert at the Buffalo Waterfront. Check out the 2019 Canalside Live concert line-up.  Or venture to Lewiston for some mid-week fun with a Tuesday night concert at Artpark. You can also visit the Buffalo Zoo where you might just hear the mighty roar of Tiberius the lion, amongst other fantastic animal noises.

Scent

Some people argue that scent is the sense that best enhances our memory. So why not stop and smell the flowers at the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens? The floral scents will overwhelm your olfactory senses with delight. Another famous smell in Buffalo is the smell of cereal from the General Mills plant. (Hey, there are worse things for a city to smell like, right?) Take a whiff of Cheerios from onboard Buffalo Harbor Cruises. You’ll take a nice relaxing cruise as you view Buffalo’s waterfront, skyline, and silo city where the cereal scents will charm your nostrils.

Taste

There’s just nothing like a frozen treat this time of year. Just because July was National Ice Cream month doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in August too. After all, in a few months the only thing frozen is going to be our butts out in the snow! So savor the flavor of our region’s frozen treats for as long as you can! Add a little frozen custard to your life with a stop at Anderson’s Frozen Custard. Might as well go into full-Summer mode and have a hot dog and fries, too!  Or if you’re looking for something a little more refined, check out the Affogato from Lombardo Ristorante. It consists of Vanilla gelato with a shot of espresso, fresh whipped cream and biscotti and it is oh so good. Or try one of Ristorante Lombardo’s daily gelato selections. So whether you’re looking for classic summer staples or looking to indulge in a little decadence, there’s plenty of ways to tantalize your taste buds this Summer.
