Explore the Buffalo Waterfront

When it comes to outdoor fun in Buffalo Niagara, nothing beats making memories along the Buffalo Waterfront. From concerts at Canalside to free fitness classes by the Outer Harbor, there are so many events and activities to load up your calendar with. Let’s explore just a taste of what these excellent venues have to offer.

Concerts at Canalside

No summer bucket list would be complete without seeing at least one concert at Canalside! There is a great lineup this year. Performers in July include Incubus, The Struts with The Glorious Sons, The Psychedelic Furs and James, Get the Led Out, “Relics” (performing the music of Pink Floyd), and The Jumpers (performing David Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop). In August, there is Nelly, the 25th Anniversary of Illmatic NAS, Arkells and The Dirty Nil, Social Distortion and Flogging Molly, Badfish (A Tribute to Sublime) and Long Beach Dub Allstars, Mike Pinto, and Jony James Blues Band with special guest Sue Kincaid (performing Hendrix and Joplin aboard the USS Littlerock). Free Fitness Classes

Good workouts are made better with fresh air! Buffalo Waterfront is hosting classes for all ages this year. On Pierce Lawn at Canalside, you will find both Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga and Studio J Kids Dance classes every Thursday, as well as Everyone Can Dance on Fridays. If you have free time Monday and Friday evenings and want to check out the beach, there are Kids Get Moving Creative Movement or Generation Pound classes. Your kids will love getting active in a social setting! For adults, there is a Fit Like a Gladiator (Bootcamp Style) class on July 6th and August 3rd at 9 AM.  On Friday evenings, there is Soma Cura Yoga. If you really love yoga, then you can’t go wrong at the Outer Harbor. You can participate in a Yoga class every Thursday at Wilkeson Pointe. On Wednesdays as well as select Saturdays, there is Love in Motion Yoga. Then there’s Lizzie’s Little Yogis on July 13th from 10 to 11 AM and Rise Fitness Yoga on August 17th! There’s also Zumba every Tuesday, another Fit Like a Gladiator class (this one at Wilkeson Pointe) on July 13th, and SABAH Kickstock 2019 (annual kickball festival) also on July 13th. You can find a list of the classes going on here!

Family Fun

If you haven’t checked out our newest attraction, Explore & More – the Ralph C. Wilson Children’s Museum, you better make some room in your schedule! Kids are loving this 43,000-square-foot palace, which encompasses four floors of fun. For a little taste of the action, head over to Canalside on Fridays from 11 AM to 2 PM, where Explore & More will be facilitating creative and interactive exhibits, classes, programs and other activities. Spend some time at the Buffalo Harbor State Park, where a fun playground with a nautical theme is sure to keep the little ones busy for a while! The playground features a soft and springy floor, swings, slides, and plenty of climbing walls. Kids will also enjoy walking along the beach, paddle boating, watching the boats, and fishing. There is something for all ages at the Waterfront. There is kayaking, family cruises, a bike park, caricatures, history tours, and more!

Good Food

During all of your Waterfront adventuring, you are probably going to work up an appetite! Lucky for us, there are plenty of good eats in the neighborhood. Have you ever dined beside Naval destroyers? Now is your chance! At Liberty Hound, which is located at 1 Naval Park Cove, you will enjoy delicious seafood options like Lobster Grilled Cheese and Diver Scallops, as well as craft beers, signature cocktails and live music. For a stylish experience, dine at Panorama on Seven, a 7th-floor feature of the Marriott which boasts of tasty New American food (think Southern European meets local Buffalo grub) and prohibition style cocktails. Take it easy in their lounge seats, sofas and overstuffed chairs. After a long morning of fitness classes and outdoor adventuring, your body will thank you for it!
