Terrapin Station helps keep Buffalo cool
Terrapin Station
Named after an album by The Grateful Dead, this head shop on Hertel Avenue features a wide array of treasures. At Terrapin Station you’ll find bohemian clothing, jewelry, crystals, aromatherapy, musical instruments, smoking accessories, eclectic gifts, and of course- Grateful Dead merchandise. Just stepping into the colorful store is an experience on its own.
Darwin D. Martin House
A must-see for those who appreciate architecture, the Martin House was designed by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright and built between 1903 and 1905. Located in Parkside, it is considered one of Wright’s most important house designs, perhaps rivaled only by his creation of Fallingwater. The entire complex includes the Martin House, the Barton House, the Carriage House, the Gardener’s House, the Conservatory, and the Pergola.

The Buffalo Zoo
Built in 1875, the Buffalo Zoo is the nation’s third oldest and brings in a whopping 400,000 visitors a year, making it second only to Niagara Falls as Buffalo Niagara’s largest tourist attraction. Here you’ll find animals from every corner of the globe- capybaras in the rainforest exhibit, polar bears in the arctic exhibit, a beautiful snow leopard in the endangered animals exhibit, and wallabies in the Australian house, just to name a few. You can visit the zoo, located in Delaware Park, any time of the year.

When you’re ready for a bite to eat, you won’t have to search for long. The North Buffalo neighborhood is known for having a huge assortment of good restaurants, including this classy establishment from the 1930’s. Enjoy mouthwatering entrees such as Grilled Ribeye with Hasselback Potatoes, Sauteed Green Beans and Gorgonzola Cream Sauce, or Braised Lamb Shank with Smoked Mascarpone Polenta, Stewed Tomatoes and Swiss Chard.
