Looking for August Adventures?

Why does summer always go by so quickly? It’s crazy to think it’s already August when it feels like it was just June! If you feel like you haven’t done enough fun activities this summer don’t fret. There’s still ample time to make memories you’ll never forget. August is the perfect month to finish checking off all those summer bucket list adventures. Below are a few ideas of ways to spend your August days.

Rent

Rent a pontoon boat from Collin’s Marine. You and your crew can enjoy a scenic boat ride along the Niagara River from the South Grand Island Bridge or along the Erie Canal. With an array of renting options there truly is something for everyone at Collin’s Marine. Stop on your ride to enjoy some great restaurants or take a dip in the water to cool off at Grass Island! Thanks to Collin’s Marine, you don’t need to own a boat to go for a ride on a boat! But if you are looking to buy a boat there’s no better place to start looking than Collin’s Marine.

Visit

Visit Darwin Martin House. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House is a masterwork of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie House ideal and a National Historic Landmark. The architecture and design are truly breathtaking. The site consists of six interconnected buildings designed as a unified composition. You’ll be feeling all Wright at the Darwin Martin House! Take one of their many tour options and make sure to visit the Museum Store on your way out for a one-of-a-kind gift inspired by the master mind of Frank Lloyd Wright. August is the perfect time for their seasonal Twilight Tour which is only offered Thursday evenings in the summer through early fall.

Shop

Shop for something groovy at Terrapin Station. Of course Terrapin Station is open year-round but with Mercury in retrograde until late August now is the perfect time to stock up on all of your healing needs. From crystals to glassware and incense Terrapin Station has everything you need to keep yourself balanced and relaxed during the dog days of Summer. So whether you’re stocking up on ritual candles or want to get a cool Dead Head t-shirt stop in and say, “hi,” at Terrapin Station today!

Celebrate

Celebrate beer at Buffalo RiverWork’s Buffalo Brewfest on August 10th. Buffalo Brewfest, Buffalo’s original craft beer festival, is set for Friday, August 10th from 5:00pm – 9:30pm at Buffalo Riverworks! All proceeds will benefit the programs and services of Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center. Craft beer lovers have the chance to enjoy more than 100 craft beers from local, regional, national and international breweries. If beer isn’t your thing don’t fret there’s plenty of other activities to keep you busy this August at Buffalo RIverWorks. From free fitness classes and kayaking,  to an escape room, to ziplining fun, and of course the iconic massive Labatt Blue silos perfect for instagram pics, there’s plenty of ways to spend a sunny day at Buffalo RiverWorks.

Ride

Ride on a narrated boat ride on the actual Historic Erie Canal Locks with Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises. See the remaining famous 1800’s “Flight of Five” canal locks.  Experience “Locking Through” – being raised and lowered 49 feet in Locks 34 & 35, the only double set of locks on the Erie Canal. Now that’s what we call an adventure! Enjoy snacks and beverages while aboard and learn a thing or two while experiencing the Lockport Locks like never before. If you can’t make it in August don’t worry; you can ride on Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises until October.

So while summer might be coming to a close we aren’t ready to call it quits just yet. We are determined to make this August the cherry on top of what was already a pretty incredible summer. From boat rides, to fun shops and adventure courses, to educational and historical destinations, and festivals there’s tons of ways to spend your dog days.
